Bulgaria is about the same area size as Britain, with a population of only 8.5 million. Getting there is easy with all major tour operators now providing flights from most UK airports to Sofia, Varna and Bourgas. Tourism from the UK alone has risen by 70% since 2003 and the low property prices have lead to a 100% increase in UK real estate investment in the last 12 months.
Bulgaria officially became a member of the EU in January 2007 and there has already been a large financial contribution because of this with 8 billion euros earmarked for investment this year. They have been members of NATO since 2004.
